Jewish Filmmaker Shares His Intimate Films

We speak with filmmaker Alan Berliner about his highly personal films, many of which are showing at the San Diego Jewish Film Festival.

Jewish Filmmaker Shares His Intimate Films

Tom Fudge: Alan Berliner is a filmmaker who likes to talk about himself. Fortunately a lot of film audiences agree that he and his family are pretty interesting, at least the way they're portrayed in Berliner movies.

From Family Album , to Nobody's Business , to Intimate Stranger and his latest movie, Wide Awake , Berliner explores his relations and his obsessions. Wide Awake was produced just last year, and it's about the filmmaker's lifelong battle with insomnia. Wide Awake, along with Nobody's Business and the Sweetest Sound are being shown this week as part of the San Diego Jewish Film Festival.
