Study Reveals Workers Happy with Workers Comp, But Others Still Not

A new survey reveals most injured workers are happy with the care they get under California's revamped workers comp system. But there are plenty of exceptions. KPBS reporter Kenny Goldberg has more.

The survey comes from the UCLA Center for Health Policy Research. It's the first in-depth study to look at the impact of California's workers comp reforms. The survey shows four out of five injured workers are satisfied with their medical treatment. But it also reveals those who suffer the worst injuries are the most likely to be unhappy with their care. Attorney David Dugan represents injured workers in San Diego.

Dugan: For minor injuries, the system works. It really always has. However it's the significant numbers of injured workers who are seriously hurt, those are the ones that the system is completely abandoning.

About 10 percent of workers surveyed say they've had no improvement more than a year after their original injury. Kenny Goldberg, KPBS News.
