Alpine Republican Congressman and Presidential candidate Duncan Hunter is still pushing for funding of the 700 mile border fence.  But Hunter’s now in the minority and California Democrats are not as enthusiastic.  Jill Morrison reports from Capitol Hill.

When Congress approved the fence, lawmakers thought it would cost around 3 billion dollars and only set aside half the funding.  But some groups now put the cost as high as $49 billion.  Southern San Diego Democrat Bob Filner says cost is just part of the problem.

Filner: You’re going to have to fill up canyons, shave off mountains move around natural habitats- so it’s a major, major undertaking.

Democrats could either eliminate the funding completely or spoil the plan by just doing nothing.

Filner: It’s costly, it’s ineffective and it misses the whole point of how we should be dealing with the Mexican government.

California’s Democratic Senators voted for the fence. But Senator Dianne Feinstein says it’s unlikely Congress will provide the additional funds.
