About 70,000 fans will make the pilgrimage to Qualcomm Stadium this weekend. That's no different from any other Chargers home game this season. Even so, Assistant Police Chief Joel Bryden is beefing up security because there's something Bryden can't put a number on -- the raw energy of Chargers fans.

Bryden: People are excited and people will be excited for this game because it's a playoff game and the Chargers have had a very good season this year and are expected to win. And so emotions ride high with the fans understandably and therefore we break up a lot of fights. Our officers get in physical confrontations at every single one of these games.

The Bolts are two games away from the Superbowl. Bryden says it costs the City of San Diego roughly $130,000 to police the stadium on game day. The Chargers pay back about a third of that. For KPBS, I'm Andrew Phelps.
