California is a step closer to picking a restoration plan for the state’s largest lake.  The Imperial County’s Salton Sea is choking on salt and pollution.  Public comment ended Tuesday on ten potential plans to reverse the lake’s ecological decline. All of  the recovery efforts carry price tags well over a billion dollars. Salton Sea Authority executive director Rick Daniels says California has already missed the December 31st deadline to pick a plan. Even so, he says he remains optimistic.

Daniels: It’s our hopes and prayer that after decades of fooling around on this issue we now have critical mass of key decision makers that will bite the bullet and make a decision and begin to allocate money to fix this problem.

Daniels says he expects the state to pick a restoration plan by April. Lawmakers would then have until the end of the year to give their approval.
