East County Residents Awake to Burned Body

Residents of an East County suburb awoke this morning to find a burned body in a vacant lot in their neighborhood. The gruesome discovery in the 1200 block of Vista del Monte Drive in unincorporated El Cajon was reported shortly after 8 this morning. The charred body of a man was found near a white Lexus with the engine running. Sheriff's Department Lt. Dennis Brugos said it was first found at around 4:30 this morning by people in the area.

Brugos: They went to sleep for a short time. Got up around 8 o'clock. Went to check with the neighbor and see if they knew who the vehicle belonged to. Neighbor didn't know. They both went out to check, and they seen that there was a body about 50 feet away from this vehicle.

The victim has not been identified.
