John Waters: The Sultan of Sleaze Speaks

With the release of the new Hairspray movie, I decided to dig back into the dusty interview vault to pull out some pearls of wisdom from the man known as The Sultan of Sleaze, The Prince of Puke and The King (or possibly Queen) of Schlock. Titles he wears proudly. I interviewed Waters back in 1997 when he was re-releasing Pink Flamingos.

I remember going to Polyester with "Odorama" and getting the scratch and sniff card. All I can recall, other then how silly the idea, was that all the sniffs smelled very much like vomit. -----

This book, published on the occasion of Waters first major museum exhibition, surveys his still photographic works made over the past decade, and also features stills from his seldom-seen no-budget films and objects from Waters' personal collection that reflect his fascination with photographic imagery, the mass media, and outrageous expressions of American popular culture. Donated by John Waters Signed Copy of John Waters Directors CutValue: $65 Dont miss the opportunity to own this out-of-print, signed copy of John Waters Directors Cut! Baltimores cult classic icon, John Waters, "re-directs" forgotten art films, obscure melodramas, lurid pot-boilers and his own early films in the form of photographic story boards made up of stills. The resulting work is this brilliant twist-off from Waters' absurd, comic view of life, and the images are as funny and delightfully edged as the very best of his films. Waters shakes the fantasies of normalcy into a new, often delicious, taste of Heaven. Donated by John Waters
