Authorities Teaming-Up to Form Regional Water Management Plan

Record low rainfall and a slowdown in water supplies from the Sacramento River Delta means conserving water is more critical than ever. Now, San Diego officials are creating a new plan to manage the region's water. KPBS reporter Ed Joyce has details.

San Diego County, the city of San Diego, and the county water authority are working together for the first time to create a regional water management plan.

Dana Friehauf is a water resource specialist with the water authority.

Friehauf : This is really an unprecedented effort, it's a new chapter for us in San Diego County for the folks to all come together and work for the benefit of the region, as far as water management.

She says a regional plan is needed for the county to get state grant money for water projects under Prop. 50.
