Teacher Flubs at Wilson Middle School May Bring Federal Sanctions

More details are coming out about a testing mistake at a San Diego middle school. That mistake caused about one-third of the school's test scores to be thrown out. KPBS reporter Ana Tintocalis has more.

Last year a group of Wilson Middle School teachers reviewed a state science test before handing it out, which is against state rules. Now some teachers say they were just following directions handed down from the principal.

District spokesman Jack Brandis confirms that, saying the principal used poor judgment.

Brandis : It was an honest mistake, and we reported it, and we took care of discussing it with her, and moved on.

But the mistake raises questions as to whether the principal was looking to give her students a leg-up. Wilson is a struggling school. Now it could run into more problems. The state didn't give Wilson an academic ranking last year because of the testing mistake. That could lead to sanctions from the federal government.
