Headline news: Bollywood Beats Hollywood at Overseas Box Office! According to Variety's Asia Online , "Bollywood stole the spotlight from Tom Cruise's Lions for Lambs at the international box office over the weekend, with a pair of socko launches for Shah Rukh Khan's Om Shanti Om and Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Saawariya ." Okay, Lions for Lambs may not be the strongest American title out there but for two Indian films to beat a Hollywood vehicle featuring a trio of big name stars is definitely something to talk about. Variety reports that overseas Lions for Lambs pulled in $10.3 million in 45 foreign markets while Om Shanti Om , a loving and often humorous homage to 1970s era Bollywood films, pulled in about $17 million in India and the musical-romance Saawariya tallied $14.4. And the cool thing is that San Diego audiences can see one of these brand new Bollywood epics right here thanks to Goldspirit Films , which is showing Om Shanti Om on November 18, 19 and 21.
