Helpful Tips When Picking Up Your Relatives at Lindbergh Airfield

San Diegans driving to pick up relatives at Lindbergh Field this holiday season have an option which could cut down on the stress of dealing with airport traffic. KPBS reporter Alison St. John explains.

Today is one of the busiest days of the year for Lindbergh Field. If you're travelling, you've heard the advice about packing your electronic gear in layers in your luggage.

But if you're picking someone up, Shari Shipley of the airport has another tip. Wait in the cell phone parking lot on Harbor Drive just before the commuter terminal.

Shipley : This year we've actually put in a flight information display so that if you're sitting in your car you can look at your schedule and see whether flights are arriving on time and that way you also save on gas you wont be circling around and around the airport, you can just take a little break in your car.

The airport has also installed snacks and drinks machines in the cell phone parking lot, to encourage people to wait for friends and relatives there and only drive to the terminals once they have called you to say they've landed.
