County officials say there's still room for large animals at the
horse camp in El Cajon on Weld Boulevard, west of Cuyamaca Street.
The camp needs horse corrals and hay but not alfalfa. Donations of
Gatorade, tents and cots, as well as coloring books and games for children
would be appreciated. They ask that the donations be brought to the camp.
Also, the El Cajon Animal Shelter has room for smaller animals and pets.
It is at 1275 North Marshall, just north of Fletcher Parkway. They do not
need donations.
A food assembly and distribution center has opened at the Elks Lodge in
El Cajon at 1400 E. Washington Ave. Lunches will be packaged there and
distributed to shelters. If your shelter has a need, call (619) 843-7218.
Those needing ice can get it in the Westfield Parkway parking lot, where
Wachovia Bank will be distributing bags from a refrigerated tractor-trailer
near Sears.
