Many East County Residents Allowed to Return Home

Highway 94 is open to residents only as far as an intersection just east of Barrett Junction, and is not open to Tecate, Portero or Campo, authorities said. But residents with ID can return to Dulzura, Indian Springs, Proctor Valley, Engineer Springs, Barrett Junction and Deerhorn Valley.

Residents may enter the area only at Jamul and must produce proper identification to officials at a checkpoint set up on Highway 94 east of Otay Lakes Road.

Many areas of Highway 94 are reduced to one lane, officials warn. Highway 94 is closed to all traffic on the east side of Barrett Junction, and cannot be used to access Route 188 to Tecate. Route 188 is also closed.

Also, Honey Springs Road is closed to traffic north of Deerhorn Valley Road.

Residents of Japatul to return starting at 8:30 a.m. today but Japatul Valley Road remains closed between Lyons Valley Road and Tavern Road.

Evacuations remain for residents of Lawson Valley and Carvearce, county
officials said.
