The temperatures are expected to cool a bit today. But the agency that manages California's power grid says conservation today will help reduce demand on the system. KPBS Reporter Ed Joyce has details.
There were scattered power outages over the Labor Day weekend throughout Southern California, including San Diego County. Officials say continuing the conservation effort today will provide an added reserve in case there's an unexpected power emergency. Gregg Fishman is with the California Independent System Operator , which manages the state's power grid. He says lower temperatures in Northern California will help reduce pressure on the grid.
Fishman: The first day back after a hot weekend or in this case a hot holiday weekend, often we see very high demand on the system. And it's probably a good idea to continue that conservation effort.
He says officials don't expect any power shortages today. But Fishman says they're keeping a close watch on electricity demand. Ed Joyce, KPBS News.
