DA Asks For Patience as Officials Investigate Police Shooting

The San Diego County district attorney is asking for patience as officials investigate a shooting by an off-duty police officer that injured a woman and her 8-year-old son.

The San Diego County district attorney is asking for patience as officials investigate a shooting by an off-duty police officer that injured a woman and her 8-year-old son.

The statement Thursday by District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis comes after a claim was filed against the city of San Diego on behalf of Johnny Silva, who was shot in the leg March 15 in an Oceanside parking lot after a traffic dispute. His mother, Rachel Silva, was shot twice in the arm and has filed a similar claim against the city.

The mother and her son were briefly hospitalized. The San Diego police officer, Frank White, was placed on paid administrative leave.

Dumanis says there will be no rush to judgment.
