Local philanthropists Gary and Mary West are donating $3 million through their foundation to Senior Community Centers. The organization aims to assist needy seniors in the downtown area with health and social concerns. Gary West says the people served by the center are growing old in the worst of conditions with little assistance from the more fortunate.

West: A lot of places would like to pretend that people like this don’t exist, and would like to stick their head in the sand and come up and hope things are better.

The center will relocate to a new building on the corner of 4 th and Beech streets. West hopes it will serve as a model for others.
