U.S. Border and Customs Protection has opened an office at Palomar Airport. This means aircraft from Mexico, Canada, or other foreign countries can now land at Palomar without having to stop elsewhere for a customs check.

As small jets landed nearby, Peter Drinkwater, Airports Director for San Diego County addressed the crowd gathered to mark the opening of the customs office.

Drinkwater : That's the sound of commerce and business , people coming from overseas that before had to stop at other places before they could land and do business in North County.

Drinkwater says corporate jets from the UK and Japan, as well as Canada and Mexico have already taken advantage of the ability to land at Palomar. He says small commercial passenger turboprops from Mexico could also use the airport.
