UCSD Researchers Discover Link Between Wind and Fish Populations

A landmark study has recently been released, which analyzes 50 years of ocean monitoring data. UCSD researchers explain how their findings can explain the rise and fall of fish populations.

Tom Fudge: Cannery Row is one of those parts of California's past that has achieved mythic status. You may know it's the title of one of John Steinbeck's great novels. And it was a real place on Monterrey Bay where canning sardines was a very big business. That is until sardine fishing dried up. Until now, the disappearance of California's sardine fishery has been a mystery. But some researchers at San Diego's Scripps Institution of Oceanography think they know why it happened. And the answer, my friends, is blowing in the wind.
