The California Highway Patrol has shut down an 8-mile stretch of State Route 78 because of mudslides.

The California Highway Patrol has shut down an 8-mile stretch of State Route 78 because of mudslides.

Crews from the state transportation department reported about 2 feet of mud and rocks sliding onto the highway between Poway and Ramona in an area burned by last fall's wildfires. Heavy rain has been falling there today.

CHP Officer Larry Landeros says it's not clear how long it will take to clear the road.
