Clear Skies Forecast in Wake of Biggest Storm in Three Years

San Diego County got a whopping amount of rain from the weekend storm. Forecasters were right for the most part, but some predictions were a little off. KPBS Reporter Dwane Brown has more on the rainfall totals.

National Weather forecaster Miguel Miller : In 50 miles we ranged from an inch-and-a-half to 21 inches. Pretty remarkable I'd say.

He says just about every place in San Diego County got a nice soaking from the rain between Friday and early Monday morning.

Lindbergh Field is now above normal for this time with more than 1.6 inches.

But Miller admits they did miss a few predictions.

Miller : So, if anything, we overestimated the rain in the deserts since they got a quarter-inch or less, and we underestimated the mountains since that one spot had 21+ inches.

That spot was in the Birch Hill area in the North County. Palomar Mountain recorded the second largest rainfall with more than 11 inches.

It was still the biggest storm in San Diego County in three years. But what about the predictions of a drier year in Southern California?

Miller : During La Ninas we can get some whopper storms. They just won't be as frequent.

Clear weather is in the forecast over the next week and a half.
