Jobs in healthcare are among the fastest growing in San Diego County. And a new report on the healthcare workforce says that growth will likely continue. KPBS Reporter Kenny Goldberg has the story
The report says there's high demand in San Diego for nursing assistants and mental health counselors. The study predicts new technologies and more home-based care will create numerous healthcare job opportunities in the future.
U-C San Francisco's Susan Chapman wrote the report. She says the aging of San Diego's population will be a key factor.
Susan Chapman : "We have a huge crisis looming in caring for our older residents, and they're high users of healthcare."
Chapman says most of the projected population increase will come from Latinos. But she says currently, Latinos are under-represented in all but entry level healthcare jobs.
