In this second of three 2008 elections, San Diego voters will be given the opportunity to choose a new city attorney. Now, this election won't actually decide who holds the office. Voters will have to wait until November's election to decide that. The job we have before us June 3rd, should the voters choose to cast their ballots, is to narrow down the field to two candidates.
I'd say the race easily boils down to two, right from the start. For one, Mike Aguirre belongs on the November ballot, and here's why I think so.

The controversy revolves around the way Mr. Aguirre has behaved as an elected official. The main questions in this city attorney race might be summed up this way: how do the voters define the city attorney's job? Is it to independently represent the people of San Diego, or is it to give independent legal advice to the mayor and other city officials?
