Tom Fudge: Yesterday, the San Diego City Council voted to approve most of the cuts, recommended by Mayor Jerry Sanders, to fill a mid-year budget hole. But the council refused to go along with the most controversial recommendations. The council did not approve the Mayor's call to close seven city libraries and ten recreation centers. Mayor Sanders admonished the council for not passing all of his budget cuts. But he said he would not veto their 6-to-1 decision, given the near certainty that his veto would be overridden. Councilman Tony Young, of the city's fourth ward, made the budget motion that the council approved yesterday.
