But Another Teen Critic Says Don't Waste Your Money on Blindness

Julianne Moore and Mark Ruffalo in Blindness (Miramax)

By Nick Alva

The film Blindness (opened October 3 throughout San Diego) is a thriller/mystery movie. The story proposes that everyone in the world goes blind except for one person (played by Julianne Moore). It starts off with one person and spreads through the whole world. When it begins, the government assumes that the blindness was contagious and so they quarantined everyone that was blind in an abandoned mental hospital. A woman whose sight is unaffected by the virus follows her afflicted husband (Mark Ruffalo) into quarantine because she does not want to leave him. They are left there with no guidance at all but are told not to leave or they will be killed. There are three wards, each containing only a limited number of beds. Days pass and and the hospital fills up with more and more blind people. After a couple weeks, people from the third ward take the food rations for themselves and basically hold them for ransom. People from the first and second wards have no choice but to abide by their rules and do what they ask. Later some of the people escape and Moore's character guides seven people through the destroyed streets of the city and then to safety.

Blindness (R for violence including sexual assaults, language and sexuality/nudity) wasn't all that great. I found it kind of stupid and with no point. i didn't like how the plague/virus came so unexpectedly and random and for no apparent reason. I think this film is not worth spending money on. I guess if you like these kind of movies where you have to keep guessing about what happens after then go ahead and see it. But I would not recommend it. It also has lots of nudity and sexual scenes.

i think it was a good review but you made a spelling mistake on the part that says (opened October 3 throughour San Diego) throughout is spelled wrong but i think i might just see this movie... THANKS

I disagree in many ways. It had it's dull parts but over all was not a stupid movie. It was proving a point about how humanity takes life for granted. It also was not a virus or a plauge, it just happened. There is no cause for it other then some higher power. The nudity thing is another thing. The scenes where all darkly lit or overly bright and did not show much of anything. Other then the fact that idon't agree with the views that you have shared i did like the discription of the movie. It pretty much tells people what happens with out giving to much away. Besides the few opinons i didn't like, the review was overall good.

I found this review to be an okay review. I think that what was stated could have been better worded. Also the part about how you felt about the movie seemed more concerning you than it did to concerning people who wish to go see the movie. After reading your review I think this movie is a pretty decent movie and sparked my intrest.

In your review you mentioned how you didn't like how the virus/plaque came unexpectedly and random and for no apparent reason. The same can be said about the virus/plague in such movies as Dawn of the Dead and Night of the Dead but those movies were amazing. I haven't seen this movie yet but it seems like a film similar to The Happening which i found really ridiculous. It seems like a movie that has bad acting and a cheesy story line but I still have to watch the movie to make my final review.

i read all the reviews on this movie and basically its telling me that thi movie is not good. why? well because the movie seems so confusing and boring i guess. so im going to take the critics advice and not go and watch this movie.... I didnt even like the movie trailers anywayz lol...

The way you explain this film makes me not want to watch it. If it's anything else besides a "soft core" snuff film i might give it a try. I like movies with a twist, but if the film has no point then why waste my time. I liked your review, but i think you walked into this film with low expectations. cheers

I agree with Nathen. The opinions were more concerning himself rather then the general public. I do think the wording was all right though.

I believe that this story could have been a bit more compelling if the world had contracted Down Syndrome, kudos for sitting through this movie because the sub-par acting and terrible filmography ruined it for me

i have to agree with Janeane White and FRANK GARCiA... first is because i read another review on this movie that really confused me... Looking at the other reviews, showing that it doesnt seem like a good movie. i would recommend reading more review before i see this film.

This review reminded me of The Happening. Thanks for the review, I was actually planning to watch the movie but now I guess not since i hate The Happening. About the three wards thing, I read Darrin's review which said that there were four groups. That made me confused. In any case, I wont be watching the movie anyway so i guess that doesnt matter. Thanks again for the review. P.S. ILY

Yes Jason it may be his review and his feelings but it should concern the general public because that is what his review is for to see if they would go see the movie or not

How can you compare a lame looking movie like this to I Am Legend?! I Am Legend had -A Great Story Line -An Awesome Actor -Fantastic Special Effects -Great Production I doubt a M. Night Shyamalan looking film could ever compare to such a great film as I Am Legend

I have not seen this movie but if i did i would probably agree with you. The Happenning wasn't great and Blindness seems to have a similar formula. I like how you explained the story in a basic format. You had some spelling and grammer errors. Some more explanation on why not to see the movie would be better but that might be the movie's fault.

I have to agree and disagree with Nick. Thriller/Mystery movies are supposed to keep you hanging off your chair and keep you wondering what is going to happen. Although i haven't watched this movie yet, it seems like it would be interesting to watch. It's not everyday that you have a bunch of blind people trying to lead there way out through one unblind person.

I dont really agree with Janeane's comment. If your saying the film has its dull moments then how did it captivate you? I think your looking too deep into this film. Talking about humanity and a higher power. Other then that i agree with the rest. It was more around his point of view then a passive review.

I find this film not so interetsing to watch now only because all these comments on how its not a good movie and how it some how is a kind of remake of some what like THE HAPPENING, and to tell you the truth i didnt like that movie cause it had no point and it was really horrible. But then again i would wanna read more reviews of the movie to actually know if iml going to see it or not.

Nick this was a pretty good review. i liked how you summarized the movie, but i believe it lacked detail when it came to your opinion of the movie. the movie is Rated R because it contains nudity, thats something you should have expected before you entered the theater. The review could have been better if you would have explained what made you think it was stupid and with no point. overall i agree with your review and would like to thank you for saving me a trip to a lame movie. This is a good review.

This review was good.I had a feeling this movie was goin to suck. I saw in other comments that this movie is good and worth seeing, but this review pretty much told me how much this movie sucks. I might see it when it comes out on DVD so i can see how good it is. so i like to say.......THANK YOU NICK ALVA FOR THIS REVIEW.....AND NOT LETTING ME WAIST $8.50

Jason "I am Legend" being a good movie is your opinion. I honestly thought "I am Legend" like "Hancock" were not horrible movies and had many flaws mainly the story of both films. Daniel said it looks like "I Am Legend" so just like when you defended Nick's review when you asked "Hes not free to express how he felt about the movie?". Is Daniel not also subject to the same?? its HIS opinion.

i agree with JASON LACSAMANA.... I AM LEGEND is one of my top tens. i haven't seen BLINDNESS but this review pretty much tels me it sucks. I AM LEGEND is going down in history for best movie!!!!! For people who dislike I AM LEGEND.....go smack your self and watch the movie again!!!!!! AND SERGIO u have no taste in GOOD MOVIES. HANCOCK was kinda of crazy but it its something you never see. I mean come on...when was the last time you seen a drunk super hero. thats awsome.

Christian i cant help but disagree with you. I Am Legend had many flaws that just turned me away from it. I will however admit that the acting was well done but overall the story was just....boring. and i like drama films that can have dull scenes but I Am Legend took the cake. as for the drunk super hero....read the Iron man comics, Tony Stark becomes a drunk and loses Stark Industries, its quite an entertaining series. There are rumors that the next Iron Man movie will deal with these problems. your taste in movies seems simplistic and 1 dimensional

I disagree with Janeane White because if i was going to watch a movie i would want to know the cause of the main thing happening. i understand the whole part on taking life for granted but when something just happens and then theres only one person who is left with out that happening to them it makes no type of sence. your left sitting there looking confused on why the girl didnt become blind too?! i mean i could understand if in the movie through out time after everyone already became blind, she was left to see how life and everyone was and then she became blind too then okay maybe were getting somewhere. but that still leaves you with a grip of questions like: 1. why was she the only one that didnt become blind? 2. why did everyone become blind in the first place? 3. what was the whole point of the movie? when everyone in the world but her got blind and had to find away to live.
