State Republicans Must Decide Between Convention and Budget

Despite the record breaking late budget, some state GOP lawmakers are attending their national convention. Sacramento reporter Jenny O'Mara reports.

Senator Dick Ackerman is one of a handful of GOP lawmakers at the convention. He's a delegate. He doesn't see leaving the capitol as a problem.

Ackerman: I was there Sunday and I was there Monday to see if we were actually going to do anything and then it was very clear that they were not going to take any action until we presented our proposal so I'm keeping advised on what's going on and as soon as it's ready for a vote I'll be there.

Ackerman's talking about the Senate Republicans' budget plan. That's expected to be voted on possibly later this week. But Assemblyman John Benoit cancelled his tickets.

Benoit: I'm not gonna go when the most important job I was sent here to do-the budget of the state of California is still pending.

Other GOP lawmakers attending include Assembly members Bonnie Garcia and Van Tran and Senator Abel Maldonado. In Sacramento I'm Jenny O'Mara.
