Councilman Kevin Faulconer is chair of the city’s audit committee, which was formed to keep a more careful eye on city finances and prevent problems like the massive pension deficit from occurring again.

The latest scandals involve the city’s development corporations, and Faulconer is under pressure to demonstrate effective oversight.

The audit of SEDC began over a year ago. Faulconer says, since it’s still not ready, he’s called a special meeting for NEXT Monday to discuss it.

Faulconer : I am hopeful we will hav e that information soon … this audit committee will be prepared to take the appropriate action.

City attorney Mike Aguirre said the media is doing a better job of getting the information

Aguirre : They seem to be accumulating information faster than our auditors are.

The auditors, Macias Geni, outlined a time table for another audit of the downtown development corporation,  which is in trouble for conflicts of interest. Macias Gini says that audit wont be ready till next April.
