SDSU Fraternities Ordered to Dry Out

SDSU has initiated a ban on alcohol for the first five weeks of the 2008-09 school year for fraternities. (Sororities are already dry per national policy.) Fraternity recruitment was already alcohol

Tom Fudge : School is back in session at San Diego State. And the use of alcohol is prohibited at SDSU fraternities. The booze ban actually began a week before classes got going on September 2nd, and it will be in effect for a total of five weeks. This is a new University policy that was proposed in October of last year. The first five weeks of school are seen as a time when students are forming friendships, and they're looking for a party.

San Diego State has had its share of drug and alcohol problems. Last year, you may remember, dozens of students were arrested in a federal drug bust called Operation Sudden Fall. Members of more than one fraternity were arrested in that operation.
