The Grantville redevelopment project is expected to generate $600 million to revitalize the community and improve traffic around Mission Gorge Road.

But the County objected because it would lose tax revenues.

The city made a complicated deal which means $30 million of the redevelopment money will go to County projects.

Kehoe has written to Attorney General Jerry Brown asking him to look into what she calls,  “a questionable redevelopment decision.”

Kehoe: The city took the short end of the stick in this deal. My job as a legislator is to figure out a way to make a law that the money raised in the redevelopment area will go towards eliminating blight in that redevelopment area.

Kehoe says, if it turns out the San Diego deal is legal, she plans to draft legislation to prevent similar deals in the future. She wants to tighten loopholes in redevelopment law, so tax breaks are used to directly benefit people living in the redevelopment area.
