The three-story Allied Health Building will be the first of its kind in the San Diego Community College District. It will house five healthcare disciplines including dental assisting, health information technology and radiologic technology.

Margie Fritch is the dean of health sciences at Mesa College. She helped design the building.

Fritch: To see our dream go on to paper is one thing -- but now when you see that dream coming to life -- and you can see, that's this lab, that's this office, and that's the faculty and staff lounge. I can't tell you how exciting it is.

Fritch says the building was needed to house the growing number of students signing-up to be healthcare technicians. It will feature state-of-the-art technology and laboratories. A one-point-five billion dollar voter-approved bond measure helped pay for the project. Its set to open next year.
