Schwarzenegger Cancels Appearance at Energy Summit

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has pulled out of the National Clean Energy Summit in Las Vegas.

His spokesman, Aaron McLear, says the governor instead will work in Sacramento before returning to Cape Cod, Mass., to be with his extended family. He did not know when Schwarzenegger would leave California.

Schwarzenegger's mother-in-law, Eunice Kennedy Shriver, has been hospitalized in critical condition at Cape Cod Hospital since last week.

The governor and his wife, Maria Shriver, are among family members who have been with her there. Schwarzenegger returned to California on Sunday night.

He had planned to join a who's-who of environmental leaders at Monday's summit in Las Vegas, including former vice president Al Gore and Energy Secretary Steven Chu.
