Despite state budget cuts, one community health provider in North County is expanding. The Vista Community Clinic has just opened a new facility to treat the under-served.

The new clinic sits on the north side of the 78 freeway in Vista. The two-story facility houses three family medicine doctors, an OBGYN, and two pediatricians.

The Vista Community Clinic has just lost more than a million dollars in state funding. Clinic CEO Barbara Mannino says thank goodness for community support.

"This building was planned a long time ago, and we were fortunate to be able to raise the money so that we could move into it mortgage free," Mannino explains. "But it will be a challenge to continue to provide services and to expand them to those in need."

Nearly one in five residents of Vista is uninsured. Last year, Vista Community Clinic treated more than 53,000 patients.
