Millions of working Californians may have to pay more for their health insurance next year. A new survey finds nearly half of all large employers say they'll likely ask employees to make higher co-payments.
The California HealthCare Foundation report tracks trends in health insurance. It shows co-payments for doctor visits increased substantially over the last four years.
High deductible plans are also becoming more common. The report reveals 21 percent of workers in small firms have a deductible of $1,000 or more.
The Foundation's Marian Mulkey says a lot of companies are passing on more of their costs to employees.
"A disturbing trend that we also see, though, is that a much larger share than we've ever seen before are actually saying that they're contemplating dropping coverage altogether next year," Mulkey points out.
Since 2002, health insurance premiums have more than doubled in California.
