Getting more exercise is the number-one health goal for San Diegans, according to a recent survey.

The survey, sponsored by Scripps Health, asked 2,000 San Diego County adults what they'd like to do to improve their health in 2010. Getting more exercise was the number one priority, while losing weight came in second. Dr. Ken Fujioka is the director of the Center for Weight Management at Scripps Clinic. He says the goal of starting an exercise program is a good one.

"Probably the easiest and most attainable thing that we can do that improves a lot of different things is just to start to exercise," says Fujioka.

Even so, he says, losing weight is more beneficial for overweight people than working out, even though it's a more difficult task. Fujioka said a 10 percent weight loss is usually all that's needed. The top health goals among survey respondents included reducing stress, eating a healthier diet and improving the quality of sleep.
