Defiance: Interview with Mark Feuerstein
Thursday, January 15, 2009
Edward Zwick's Defiance opens tomorrow, January 16. The film tells the story of three Jewish brothers -- the Bielskis -- who manage to escape from Nazi-occupied Poland and find refuge in the Belarussian forest. They end up helping hundreds of others fleeing the Nazi. The film shows how the brothers tried to establish a community in the forest. Actor Mark Feuerstein plays Isaac Malbin, an intellectual who joins the Bielskis. Feuerstein came to the KPBS studios earlier this month and spoke with me about the challenges of making a film about historical events and real people.
