Platinum Equity, a Beverly Hills investment firm, completed its purchase of the San Diego Union-Tribune this week. What will new ownership at the Union-Tribune mean to the community the newspaper serves?

Gloria Penner: Just days after Platinum Equity took ownership of the San Diego Union-Tribune this week, almost 200 employees were laid off.

Could this be the greening of the Union Trib? Realizing that the trend to getting your news online rather than in print is here to stay. It's clearly more efficient and good for the environment, not to mention in the moment. Newspapers are not alone in facing this change.
