SAN DIEGO Vice President Joe Biden appeared at Naval Air Station North Island today spoke to the sailors of the USS Ronald Reagan. KPBS report Katie Orr was there and has the story.
The Vice President took the opportunity to voice the administration’s support for the sailors. He says he and President Barack Obama are working to improve the quality of life for service members and their families.
“If we only have $10 to spend as a nation, and it takes $8 to meet the needs of the families who have served, then we will spend that $8 before we spend a penny on anything else,” he says.
Biden says the federal stimulus package includes $7 billion for military construction projects, including $138 million to improve facilities at North Island. The Ronald Reagan is expected to deploy to the western Pacific and Indian Oceans at the end of the month. It’s the fourth deployment for the Air Craft Carrier in four years.
