UCSD Medical Center Has New CEO
UC San Diego Medical Center has a new CEO. Thomas Jackiewicz takes the helm of the organization, which includes two hospitals and the Moores UCSD Cancer Center.

UC San Diego Medical Center has a new CEO. Tom Jackiewicz takes the helm of the organization, which includes two hospitals and the Moores UCSD Cancer Center.

Jackiewicz has been at UCSD Health Sciences since 2001. He most recently served as chief financial officer.

Jackiewicz will now oversee the Medical Center's 5,300 employees. He'll be in charge of an $800 million budget.

The new CEO says UCSD will pursue a growth strategy that has three components.

"The first is to actually continue to invest and renew in Hillcrest, as well as expand in La Jolla," Jackiewicz says. "We also in our brand awareness, and develop and enhance our national reputation. The third part of it is to maintain our strong track record of financial performance."

Later today UCSD will break ground on a telemedicine building. A new cardiovascular center will open in La Jolla in 2011.
