Freedom Walk Honors Military Families

Several hundred people are expected to gather at the Veterans Museum in Balboa Park this afternoon to reflect on the events of 9/11, and honor those who are still engaged in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Jae Marciano is president of the San Diego chapter of Operation Homefront, a non profit organization that provides emergency support to military families

"We really just want to give the community an opportunity to have that moment of reflection about 9/11," she says." So that people don’t forget that there is still a war going on that came from this day, and the impact it’s had on our nation and all the families that it’s affected."

Marciano says the Navy Band will play taps, Admiral Len Hering will give a keynote speech, and 100 white doves will be released. There will be an exhibition of photographs of military families and a 1 mile Freedom Walk around Balboa Park, open to all. She says similar walks are happening in cities across the country.
