Unemployment Up in San Diego County

The unemployment rate in San Diego County rose to 11 percent in March, up from a revised 10.7 percent the previous month, the California Employment Development Department reported today.

The unemployment rate in San Diego County was 9 percent in March of last year, according to the EDD.

California's unemployment rate was 12.6 percent in March, up slightly from 12.5 percent in February, according to the EDD.

The national unemployment rate held steady at 9.7 percent in March, according to the EDD.

Between February and March, the San Diego region gained 5,500 jobs, but has lost 35,100 jobs over the year, according to the EDD. The biggest local jobs gain last month was in the government sector.
