Help Send a Local Filmmaker to Cannes

Giancarlo Ruiz is a filmmaker whose films I've admired for years. I showed some of his shorts at Film School Confidential and now his new short "St. Jacques" is making its way to Cannes. Join him Friday April 30 at 6pm at the Media Arts Center San Diego (921 25th Street) for a fundraiser to help send him to France.

Ruiz' short film "St. Jacques" will be screening as part of the Short Film Corner at the Cannes Film Festival 2010.

"After learning that 'St. Jacques' was going to be showcased at the Short Film Corner Festival de Cannes," Ruiz says, "I was stunned more than anything. I don't think it has settled in even though I sense the magnitude and importance of this opportunity. The pure excitement of being part of something much larger than I have ever dreamed about is definitely incredible and I want to take advantage of that moment in time and I'm sure good things will come out of it."

It is a recognition well deserved. His films over the years have always displayed a visual inventiveness, an eagerness to push the boundaries of convention, and a unique stylistic flair. I hope you will come out and support him by attending this fundraiser and giving generously. There will be a silent auction and donations of $10 or more will be rewarded with a screener of the film.
