Get festive at Arclinea San Diego’s 5th Avenue showroom this Saturday with the second annual Gingerbread Collective. The event is a twist on your holiday gingerbread contest, featuring San Diego’s top chefs and culinary professionals. Guests get to spend time in Arclinea’s “Bon Appetit” featured kitchen showroom, watch the chefs compete at making gingerbread inspired creations, and eat the competition! The program will benefit local non-profit Second Chance.

Good live music? Good film? Both together? It doesn’t get much better then that. This Friday, check out the live music and film event “Flood Tide:Remixed: at MCASD La Jolla. The combo features the music of Dark, Dark, Dark alongside a film about four musicians who craft extraordinary boats out of whatever junk they can find and set out for open water.

In the age of auto tune and indie electropop, six-piece soul bands are few and far between. With their vintage organs and irresistibly catchy songs, Fitz & the Tantrums are a blowing horns of hope for the musical scene! They’re on the cusp of superstardom and we’re counting ourselves lucky to have them visit.

Don’t miss the last show of the “Roots and Reeds” series this Friday at Sushi Performance and Visual Art. The finale features the work of American saxophonist, Guggenheim fellow, and Mellon Jazz Legacy award-winner Oliver Lake. Lake has arranged for the likes of Bjork and Lou Reed and was a founder of the internationally acclaimed World Saxophone Quartet.

Guitarist Fred Benedetti, student of the legendary Andres Segovia, will perform at the Serra Museum at Presidio Park this Sunday. The museum has been closed for some time, so it is a great chance to revisit a great location and hear some great music.

The multimedia Orchestra Nova will perform their toe-tapping holiday show this Sunday afternoon at Escondido Center for Ahe arts. Jung-Ho Park’s show features fantastic vocalists, a specially chosen chorus, a children’s choir, and a handbell choir in addition to the orchestra. This is the perfect event to help the family get in the holiday spirit.

Illuminate both brain hemispheres tonight as math and art collide at High Tech High’s Media Arts Exhibition! Whether you’re right brained or left, “Illuminated Mathematics” will bring accountants and artists together over digital art and interactive installations. It’s at Sushi and it’s free!

Catch Shane Anderson’s “Rare Properties” show at The Periscope Project for Art+Architecture from now until January 14. The photographs question and explore American culture’s relationship with nature, the environment, and western myths.

Artist Dani Dodge will showcase her latest painting, inspired by a recent trip to Paris, in a show this Thursday at Pimento Fine Art. The exhibit, “Graffiti Pink Paris”, is sponsored by the San Diego Fine Art Society and celebrates the intensity of “the city of lights”.

Eleven of the young movers and shakers of the San Diego dance community have come together under Jean Isaac this Sunday for a evening of choreography. While San Diego Young Choreographers Prize is awarding these emerging choreographers, we’re the ones who who are getting the real treat by getting a sneak peek into the future of our local dance scene.
