Californians Happy With President But Pessimistic About Direction Of The Country

Most Californians are still happy with the President – but they’re not pleased with the direction the country’s headed.

A new field poll finds that Californians are gloomier than ever about the direction the nation is headed. But most of them are still happy with President Obama.

The Field Poll finds that 54 percent of California voters approve of the job President Barack Obama is doing, compared to 39 percent who disapprove. And when it comes to the President’s handling of the oil spill in the Gulf, Californians approve by a slim 47 to 44 percent margin.

However, Californians are more pessimistic about the direction the country’s headed. Only 33 percent of likely voters think the U.S. is headed the right way and 53 percent say the nation is seriously off on the wrong track.

That’s the gloomiest assessment the Field Poll has found over the past two years. The poll of about 14-hundred thousand registered voters was conducted late last month and early this month.
