San Diego immigrants rights groups are protesting what they say are anti-immigrant comments made by Congressman Brian Bilbray.

Bilbray (R-Solana Beach) commented during an April cable TV program that one way law enforcement can identify illegal immigrants is by the type of clothes they wear. He was answering a question about Arizona's new immigration law.

Breanna Easton is a Cal State San Marcos student and a member of the group called Save Bilbray's Sole.

The group delivered shoes with tags marked "citizen, legal resident, undocumented" Friday to Bilbray's Solana Beach office.

"We're not going to stand for this type of behavior, we're not going to stand for the infringement of our civil rights and liberties and we would like for him to apologize," said Easton.

Bilbray is Chairman of the House Immigration Reform Caucus.

A spokesman for Bilbray said the congressman's comments were about ways law enforcement personnel are trained to look at behavior and other details - including clothes and shoes - to determine whether a person may be an undocumented migrant.
