SAN DIEGO The San Diego Unified School District Board of Education takes another step in finding a new superintendent on Tuesday. The names of three finalists could be revealed.
The trustees met behind closed doors to determine whether they should settle on three finalists or interview a few more candidates for the district's top job.
So far the board members have met with five contenders.
The district extended the application deadline by two weeks and got 10 more applicants.
Board president Richard Barrera says he's been happy with the candidates so far.
“I think (the interviews) were terrific. Very strong candidates and diverse backgrounds. There was a lot of very clear perspectives that came across in the interviews,” Barrera said.
Barrera said the interview process is confidential until the top three finalists are named. He says candidates come from inside and outside the district.
The board's decision takes place on the same day voters head to the polls to elect two new school board members.
A permanent superintendent could be in place by next month.
