San Diego Congress Members Line Up On Health Bill

— Members of San Diego county's congressional delegation are lining up on both sides of a health care bill that's up for a House vote on Sunday.

The White House can't say if there are enough votes in the House to pass the health care package. But they can be sure that San Diego Democratic Congresswoman Susan Davis is on board.

Davis said the health care bill will bring coverage to millions of uninsured people and slow the increasing cost of health care premiums. She said the bill isn't perfect, but it's time to act.

"I think that there are risks involved, but I think we all have to look at that with clear eyes and recognize that the benefits outweigh the risks," said Davis.

San Diego Republican Congressman Brian Bilbray won't support the health package because it includes a large tax increase.

San Diego Democrat Bob Filner wasn't immediately available for comment. But he has said he won't support legislation, like the current bill, that lacks a government insurance option.

Brian Bilbray is completely wrong on this issue. Per the independent Congressional Budget Office, the Health Insurance Reform bill will actually save the American taxpayers money over the long run AND provide healthcare to most legal Americans. It is interesting that Brian Bilbray voted against the Economic Stimulus legislation, the largest TAX REDUCTION in U.S. history, and now he is again voting against the wishes of his district on health insurance reform. Despite the vocal minorities protestations, most informed voters, Republicans and Democrats alike, are fed up with long-term incumbents like Brian Bilbray who vote to protect their own congressional health benefits, but won't vote to save the taxpayers scarce dollars over the long run by providing universal coverage, ending pre-existing exclusions and no lifetime caps. It is time for Brian Bilbray to go home to Imperial Beach and let us have a representative who truly understands how to save taxpayers money while providing a safety net for all Americans!
