Watch the full episode. See more San Diego Week.

California saw the worst whooping cough outbreak in more than 60 years in 20-10, more than 1,000 people were treated for the disease in San Diego County. KPBS and The Watchdog Institute at SDSU spent months investigating the epidemic and found many of the people getting sick had been previously immunized. Now federal health officials are trying to find out why. The Centers For Disease Control said Monday that while the vaccine is highly effective, immunity may be waning for children ages 8 through 10.
