Danny Boyle’s Production is Latest National Theater Live Presentation
Wednesday, April 6, 2011
NT Live offers the best of British theater broadcast live to movie theaters around the world. In addition to the featured performance, there are often behind-the-scenes footage and interviews with artists.
The latest production to be presented at the Reading Gaslamp is by award-winning filmmaker Danny Boyle ("Trainspotting," "Slumdog Millionaire," and "127 Hours"). Boyle re-teams with his "Trainspotting" star Jonny Lee Miller for "Frankenstein," Nick Dear's play based on the novel by Mary Shelley.
National Theatre Live will broadcast two separate performances of the production because the novelty of the play's run has been that Benedict Cumberbatch and Jonny Lee Miller have been alternating the roles of Victor Frankenstein and the Creature. So moviegoers can choose which or both version(s) they want to see. According to the press release the performance "featuring Benedict Cumberbatch as the Creature and Jonny Lee Miller as Frakenstein, will replay in High Definition at the Reading Gaslamp 15 on Wednesday, April 6 and Thursday, April 7, both at 7:00 p.m. The additional filmed performance with the leading roles reversed – Jonny Lee Miller as the Creature and Benedict Cumberbatch as Frankenstein – will be... replayed at the Gaslamp 15 on Sunday, May 1 at 2:00 p.m. and Tuesday, May 3, at 7:00pm. Tickets for every show are $20 per person."
The play was not available for preview but I'm willing to gamble on any production of "Frankenstein," and Boyle's involvement just ups my expectations. But here's the trailer so you can decide.
