Cold Storm Arrives To San Diego

A cold Pacific storm will bring rain and snow to San Diego County today and Tuesday, forecasters said.

Precipitation will move slowly inland from the coast during today's morning commute and become heavy at times, according to the National Weather Service. San Diegans can also expect periods of rain this afternoon and isolated thunderstorms.

Rainfall totals will range from a half-inch to an inch and half, said an NWS advisory.

Heavy snowfall is expected in the mountains this afternoon through Tuesday morning.

A winter storm warning is scheduled for mountain areas above 5,000 feet from 10 a.m. today to 2 p.m. Tuesday.

According to the Weather Service, a few inches of snow will accumulate around 5,000 feet but areas above 6,000 feet could receive up to 10 inches.

"Residents and travelers into higher elevations in the mountains should be prepared for hazardous winter weather conditions and possible road closures. If possible, carry chains and take extra food and clothing,'' according to the NWS advisory.
