Gusty Winds Expected Around The County Today

Strong gusty winds were expected in parts of San Diego County today.

An upper level low pressure system over Arizona and surface high pressure over the Great Basin will bring strong offshore winds into Friday morning, with the strongest winds through and below passes and canyons, according to the National Weather Service.

The agency issued a wind advisory for coastal areas from 6 a.m. today to 1 p.m. Friday. Winds along the coast will be 15-25 mph, with gusts up to 40 mph, mainly north of Oceanside, the Weather Service advised.

In the valleys and mountains, a wind advisory was scheduled from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. today, and a more serious high wind warning was scheduled from 6 p.m. today to 1 p.m. Friday. According to the Weather Service, the valleys and mountains will experience gusts of up to 60 mph.

"Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles,'' the Weather Service warned.

According to the agency, winds will gradually weaken Friday afternoon through Saturday morning.
