SPECIAL COVERAGE: Living With Wildfires: San Diego Firestorm 10 Years Later

Woman Has Surgery On Leg Crushed By Taxi

A woman whose leg was crushed when a taxi rolled into a crowd outside a San Diego nightclub has undergone reconstructive surgery.

The San Diego Union-Tribune says 45-year-old Dominique Gambale of Encinitas had two reconstructive surgeries last week. She had earlier surgeries to clean up the wound.

Her condition is improving and she remains in good spirits, according to Dr. Paul Girard at the University of California, San Diego Medical Center.

Gambale was among 35 people injured on Feb. 12 when a cab drove slowly into a crowd outside a nightclub in the Gaslamp Quarter. She was pinned against a wall.

The driver, 52-year-old Sam Daly, hasn't been cited.

Police say he may have fallen asleep or blacked out at the wheel.
